The story of Lykkely

I got fired from my job in the fall of 2003 and after spending 12-13 hours a day at working and transportation, I suddenly got a lot of time on my hand. I live together with Amanda (born in 1996) and her mother. I had almost only been saying good morning and good night to Amanda during the working week, and I decided to spend some time with her and to make something for her.

The idea

My mother had given Amanda some furniture for Amanda's Barbie dolls, made by a retired cabinetmaker she knows. The furniture where very nice but we didn't really know where to put them. In the fall of 2003 we borrowed a summer cottage of an ex-colleague in this house was a nice old dollhouse - this was the solution to our problem...

The project

Amanda and I agreed building a house for the furniture and her Barbie- and Bratzdolls and the project Lykkely was born !

Meetings at the kitchen table

After several meetings at the kitchen table between Amanda and I, the first sketches of Lykkely were ready. Amanda would like to have a beauty saloon, some bedrooms, a kitchen and a princess room and I would like to have a bathroom and a ballroom.

Lykkely under construction

I started building Lykkely and we spend a lot a time during the fall and winter finding things for Lykkely. Friends and family brought things for use in Lykkely - from many parts of the world.

Naming of Lykkely

The name Lykkely is my mothers idea. Amanda's middle name is Lykke witch means happiness in Danish. Many older houses an castles in Denmark has names ending on "ly", witch means shelter in Danish. So the name Lykkely could be translated to "Shelter of Happiness".

Christmas presents

In December of 2003 Lykkely was almost done. Every morning in December there was a little present on the ball room floor, for use in Lykkely like a clothes-line with clothes-pegs, a Christmas three with lights on, an outdoor thermometer and things like that.

Handing over of Lykkely

Lykkely was "officially" handed over to Amanda on her 8th. birthday in the beginning of February 2004.

Lykkely.dk

Now I'm back in a new job and as I work with computers, Lykkely should have a homepage, of cause. I didn't have many clues about making it, so here was my chance to upgrade my skills. This is what I came up with - I hope you like it. And if you do, please sign the guestbook...

Please enjoy,

Amanda & Claus
